Construction is currently underway on the 711-meter-long Španí Háj railway tunnel near Vydrník, Slovakia. Once completed, the tunnel will straighten an important railway line located directly on the main route between Poprad and Košice. The modernization of the 15-kilometer railway corridor will subsequently allow speeds to be increased to 160 km/h.

Our long-standing partner VEDOS therefore opted for our SBM Variomix® 2000-500 V mobile tower concrete plant, which was transported directly to the tunnel site from the Gigerwald Dam in Switzerland. Having the mixing plant installed near the construction site itself ensures seamless logistics and high-quality fresh concrete delivered directly to the site. The second mixing plant supplying this project is the SBM Euromix® 3300 SPACE in Poprad. All of this is being done so that the first trains can pass through the tunnel as early as the end of next year.

The advantages of the Variomix® tower-type “mobile” plant include its exceptionally compact footprint and modular expandability, high performance, as well as easy transport and quick installation. The concrete plant also features additional chambers for up to 10 types of aggregate with a total volume of 500 m³, integrated cement silos directly within the plant, and electrical wiring ready for use with outlets.

Thanks to these features, the Variomix® is suitable for similar projects and is also ideal for urban areas.
